New Program Will Improve Medical Services for the Disabled

At the CP Family Network, we receive many inquiries and complaints from parents of disabled children about the lack of medical resources available for people with disabilities. The most common issues are accessibility problems and medical professionals that have not been trained to properly address the needs of the disabled. We’re excited to let you know about a new program that may improve medical assistance for special-needs individuals over the next few years.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are supporting a three-year initiative with The Arc to help bring better medical services to the disabled community. The Arc is a national community-based organization advocating for and serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The joint program, known as HealthMeet, will support special-needs training for medical students and healthcare professionals and will provide easily accessible medical screenings for those with special needs. The initiative also includes data collection and analysis for people with disabilities, comprehensive information and referral, and a public awareness campaign.
